Carl Mackenzie
Co-founder and CEO

Carl Mackenzie is a writer, director and producer who is recognised for his determination and passion within the film industry. He brings a fresh and original approach to filmmaking and is the writer, producer and director behind The Interrogation of Olivia Donovan, new 3-part drama series The Interrogation and short films Just A Day, Rekindled and The Silent Network.  In 2016, Carl also produced short film Spark (Or; The advantages to recording your conversations)

Carl is currently in development with two feature films, with both looking to enter Pre-Production in 2018.  Throughout 2017, Carl has been working closely with Film and TV students to support the next generation of British filmmaker within their careers


Marc Miller
Co-founder and Festival Director

Marc Miller has a passion for engaging and entertaining the Chelmsford community, which is evident in the numerous cultural projects he has been involved with during the past 18 years. These projects include launching and managing various local live entertainment venues and creating pop up events such as art and record fairs, supper clubs and comedy nights. He currently works for the Chelmsford City Cultural Events team where he is largely responsible for the marketing of The 3foot People and The Fling Festival.  

Marc recently launched Chelmsford based film event project, Pop Up Pix and also hosts cinema stages at various large scale events such as Y Not Festival.  As well as engaging the local community, his career has found him managing events for various leading London based venues, as well as being responsible for bringing in high profile events from MTV, Love Music Hate Racism and NME.


Andy Pinkney
Co-founder and Festival Director

Recently becoming a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Andy Pinkney brings extensive knowledge of film and festival production.  He has run festivals from inception through to implementation and has worked with the likes of Bestival, Secret Garden Party and Shamballa to name but a few.  In 2014, he assisted the production manager on BFI’s 2014 film festival gala.

In addition to his festival experience, Andy also brings his many years of experience within the film industry working in the camera department on big name productions such as Game of Thrones and 24: Live another Day, to live music showcases such as Bjork’s 16 camera live event Biophillia.  Andy is also the founder of Mettle Productions which is known for creating exciting new projects involving local talent in and around Essex.

Chris Cook
Festival director

Chris Cook is a VFX Artist with background working on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and collaborating with local filmmakers on independent projects. Chris has worked in the VFX industry since 2009, creating award-winning effects for box office hits including Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange and the Oscar and BAFTA winning Gravity.

Chris was born and raised in Chelmsford and has a passion for supporting local talent and connecting traditional filmmakers with VFX artists. He regularly speaks at conferences, universities and events to promote careers in the creative industries.


Sarah Mackenzie
Festival director

Sarah’s background includes more than 18 years' experience as a legal PA, working in small boutique practices and large international law firms. She was part of the team that handled the negotiations by the Anschutz Entertainment Group to acquire the rights from the British government to redevelop The O2 (formerly the Millennium Dome).  In 2013, Sarah worked as a production manager and executive producer on short film, Rekindled

Following this experience and with her genuine love of film, Sarah went on to work as a producer TV pilots, Deep Cuts and The Interrogation of Olivia Donovan.  In 2017, Sarah was instrumental in bringing Chelmsford’s first film festival to the city.
